To bring people and God together in love.


Our mission hasn't changed. What God is doing in our church family is truly extraordinary, especially for a city like St Louis. According to a study at Baylor University, only 12% of Protestant churches in the United States are multi-ethnic (no one ethnic group constitutes >80% of the congregation). In St. Louis, racial and ethnic tensions run deep. People who live geographically near each other remain emotionally and spiritually divided. Christians in St. Louis are deeply segregated. And yet, God has uniquely equipped us to develop not only an ethnically diverse church, but also a multi-generational, multi-socioeconomic and multi-political church as well. 


My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one—I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

All would become one in Him.


We want to see St. Louis transformed by the unifying message of the gospel. We want to go beyond University City and begin impacting other areas of the city.


We believe that God has positioned us to go into areas of our city where there are sharp divisions along ethnic, racial, age and/or socio-economic lines and be a force for gospel transformation. We are one church who will gather in multiple locations throughout our city. Perhaps one day we will expand into Ferguson, Webster Groves, the Central West End and other areas throughout our region that need to experience Christ’s call to oneness.

We are at capacity in our current location, and are overcrowded in our children’s space, parking lots, weekly meeting space and second service auditorium space.


Ever since our inception, we have continued to grow by 15% - 35% each year. At this rate of growth, we are beginning to exceed our capacity in our current location. 


Family Center: Our children’s space is currently at capacity, serving 80-90 children every Sunday in addition to 15-20 team members. The Family Center is also at capacity for meetings, training sessions, Life Groups, and other small gatherings.


Auditorium Seating: In the second service, our auditorium is beginning to reach capacity. For special services/events, we are required to use the overflow auditorium and to rent off-site locations. Last Easter 840 people attended our services. This year, we will be holding three services on Easter Sunday to accommodate the crowd at the Tivoli.


Parking Lots: Our lots and nearby street parking spots reach capacity each week before the second service. 


Mid-Size Group Gatherings: We have no space for special events, special services, youth gatherings, prayer gatherings, worship nights, young adult gatherings, retreats, weddings, etc. In short, we need more space for our fast-growing congregation. 


Mid-Week Events: Currently, we are unable to hold mid-week events, conferences, services, etc. due to rental constraints at the Tivoli during the week, and traffic flow on the Delmar Loop.

20,000 sq-ft church building in the Shaw Neighborhood.

Just a few days after hearing that our offer on the U-City location was not accepted, we learned that a church in the Shaw neighborhood was closing its doors, leaving a beautiful 20,000 sq foot building available for purchase.

The building is situated at the intersection of two well-known thoroughfares in St. Louis (Shaw Blvd. and Tower Grove Ave.). It sits diagonally opposite of the Botanical Gardens, just two blocks from I-44, approximately 1 mile from I-40 and easily accessible from Downtown, South St. Louis, Soulard, Richmond Heights, Brentwood, Rock Hill, Maplewood, Webster Groves and several other neighborhoods and municipalities.  It is approx. 15 minutes from our current location.


The Building

The building contains a large auditorium (approx. 200 seating capacity), cafe area, multiple large classrooms, a commercial kitchen and a large fellowship hall. In addition to providing space for a second campus, the building will also provide space for ministry events, special services, youth gatherings, young adult gatherings, retreats, prayer gatherings, worship nights, weddings, etc.

We estimate that approximately 255 members and attendees in our congregation, including several key leaders and Dream Team members, live as close to the Shaw location as to our University City location. While we cannot be certain who in our congregation will choose to help launch the Shaw location, it appears from preliminary conversations that several of our team members and leaders are eager to help launch a church campus near their neighborhood.

the numbers

We estimate the expense associated with launching the Shaw location will total between $345K and $395K, including renovations, equipment, etc. Thanks to the generosity of our members, we have been able to purchase the building and will begin renovating in March, 2019.

the model

We will follow the Church of the Highlands model for launching and operating additional sites. This means, we will provide identical ministries and services at the Shaw campus as those provided at the U-City campus. Sermons will be provided mainly by video (with some live preaching). All other facets of ministry will be provided by leaders and team members on site. Watch the video below for a more complete picture of this model.



The leadership

The Shaw location will operate in exactly the same way as the U-City location. Team leaders will be assigned for the various teams (Children, Worship, Next Steps, Welcome, Hospitality, Prayer, etc.), who will report to the church-wide leaders in their given ministry. Dr. Mark Segraves will serve as our campus pastor at the Shaw location. The music, curriculum, preaching, etc. will mirror the ministry of the U-City campus.

Frequently asked questions

Are we planting a separate church?


No. We are one church in two locations.

 

Will people be pressured to attend a specific campus?


No. People may attend whichever campus they like, whether it is closer to them or not.


Will people be interested in attending a campus in a multi-site church?


According to a large study by Leadership Network/Generis*:

  • In the United States alone, 5 million people worshipped at one of 8,000 multisite churches last weekend.
  • Nine percent of all Protestant churchgoers and 3% of all Protestant churches, respectively are multi-site.
  • If multisite churches were a Protestant denomination, they would be the fourth largest.
  • 85% of surveyed multisite churches are growing—and at the rate of 14% per year. 
  • Churches typically go multisite in the 1,000 size range, though almost half say they could have become multisite at a smaller size. 
  • Campus viability starts at 75-350 people, depending on your model. 
  • The typical multisite church is just 4 years into the process, and 57% plan to launch an additional campus in the next 12 months. 
  • The vast majority (88%) of churches report that going multisite increased the role of lay participation. 
  • The vast majority (87%) of campus pastors are found internally—trained and hired from within the church. 
  • Multisite campuses grow far more than church plants, and likewise multisite campuses have a greater evangelistic impact than church plants.

Will the preaching be live or via video?


Sermons will be provided mainly by video (with some live preaching). All other facets of ministry will be provided by leaders and team members on site.


What will the Church be called?


Our new name is "One Family Church." Each site will be identified by its location: U-City, Shaw, etc.


Why don’t we just buy a bigger church in University City?


We have been looking carefully for suitable property in the University City area for several years. Currently we are not aware of any suitable locations for sale. Additionally, the multi-site model provides a number of additional benefits: smaller / more intimate worship service and community, additional locations for various functions, further reach, greater accessibility, greater member engagement, greater opportunity for evangelism, discipleship, leadership development, etc. 


Who will staff the Shaw location?


We will be holding several planning and listening meetings in the coming months to finalize staffing plans for the new location.


How will we promote the Shaw location and reach out to the neighborhood?


We are planning an extensive online presence, mailer campaign, and word of mouth.


Won’t the two campuses drift apart?


We have always said that “we must grow larger and smaller at the same time.” Every time we grow larger, it becomes more difficult for everyone in our church to know one another. However, part of our mission is to reach as many people as possible with the gospel. We cannot allow our desire for intimacy to override Christ’s commission to reach the world. In order to maintain intimacy and close community, we urge every member to join a Life Group and to join the Dream Team. These are the two ministries where strong, tight-knit bonds of Christian fellowship are forged.
