How to read the bible
We are all seeking after truth. One of the best ways to get truth directly from God is to read the Bible daily. If you've never done this, here are a few resources to get you started.
Follow these steps, and you will be amazed as you read your Bible, grow in wisdom, and find truth.
Scripture Engagement
Hearing
Hearing God's Word provides fresh insight into its meaning, context, and how it applies to your life. Develop expectant listening so the scripture can permeate through your day and continually be brought to mind.
Reading
Reading the Bible builds a familiarity with scripture, displaying the breadth of God's Word. As a church, we read through the Bible in a year together using the Read Scripture App.
Studying
Studying scripture in community shows us the depth of God's Word, and provides the Holy Spirit an opportunity to encourage, correct, and transform our hearts.
Memorizing
Memorizing God's Word shapes our reflexes. The goal of memorization is to keep scripture fresh in our mind and heart, always striving to respond God's way in the face of unexpected challenges.
Meditation
Meditation is at the heart of scripture engagement. As we receive God's Word in any manner, we have the opportunity to dwell on it, and allow it to sink deeply into our hearts. This opens us to the transforming power of Jesus.
Lectio Divina is a contemplative way of reading the Bible.
